About Búzios
Búzios is a peninsula 170 km east of Rio de Janeiro, famous since Brigitte Bardot put it on the map in 1964. What was a sleepy fishing village is now a year-round resort town with 23 beaches packed into 8 km of coastline. Geribá draws surfers and a young crowd, Ferradura is calm family beach, João Fernandes has the clearest water for snorkeling, and Centro (Rua das Pedras) is where the nightlife and fine dining happens. Argentines treat Búzios like their second home from December through March.

Safety
Búzios is one of the safest beach destinations in Brazil. Walk Rua das Pedras at night safely. Standard precautions: don't flash electronics on Geribá or remote beaches, use authorized buggy operators.
Language
Portuguese primary. Spanish widely spoken (Argentine tourism). English in tourist-facing businesses (hotels, top restaurants). Learn 5 words: olá, obrigado, por favor, água, conta.
Money
Reais (BRL). USD: 5.0–5.2 BRL (mid-2026). Credit cards everywhere. Pix is the local instant-payment system; visitors can't use it without a CPF, so bring a card.
Internet
4G/5G is reliable. Most rentals have 100+ Mbps fiber. Buy an Eskimo or Airalo eSIM before arrival ($10–15 for 10 GB).
Downsides (honest)
Crowded and expensive Dec–Feb (Argentine peak)
Roads are narrow and parking is hell in high season
Tap water is fine for showers but use bottled for drinking
Nightlife winds down around 3am
Perfect for
Couples and small groups (2–6 people) seeking beach-and-restaurant time without backpacker hostels. Not the destination for budget shoestring travel.
