About Trancoso
Trancoso is a small village 30 km south of Porto Seguro in southern Bahia. Its center is the Quadrado, a grass-lined plaza founded by Jesuits in 1583, with the white Igreja de São João Batista facing the cliffs and ocean. Below, a 13 km stretch of mostly empty beaches: Praia dos Nativos, Itapororoca, Espelho (one of Brazil's most photographed beaches, 8 km further). The vibe is barefoot luxury: dirt roads, no shoes, candle-lit dinners on the grass.

Language
Portuguese. English in upscale pousadas and Quadrado restaurants. Spanish less common than Búzios.
Money
Bring cards. Cash useful for buggy drivers, beach vendors. ATMs in Trancoso center work, but bring a backup.
Internet
Fiber in most luxury pousadas (50–200 Mbps). Mobile 4G works in Quadrado and on Nativos beach.
Downsides (honest)
Expensive: budget travelers will struggle in Dec–Feb
Limited nightlife (this is the point)
Rainy April–May can mean 3 days of clouds
Far from international hubs (extra connection required)
Perfect for
Couples, honeymooners, design-conscious travelers seeking quiet luxury beach time. Not for partyers (head to Pipa instead) or budget backpackers (try Caraíva).
